Agreement to Terms

These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Musestar ("we", "us", "our"), the developer of Tonify. These Terms apply to all users of the Extension, including any associated website at musestar.org.

Description of Service

Tonify is a Chrome browser extension that provides real-time audio pitch shifting, fine-tuning, and playback speed control for audio and video content played through your browser. It is designed for musicians, music learners, language learners, and anyone who needs to adjust how audio plays back in their browser.

The extension currently includes the following features:

• Pitch shifting — transpose audio up or down by up to ±12 semitones in real time using tab audio capture and a phase vocoder algorithm
• Fine tuning — adjust pitch in ±1 cent increments up to ±100 cents for precise tuning
• Playback speed control — speed up or slow down video and audio elements on a page by setting the browser's native playbackRate property (pitch-corrected)
• Dark and light themes — visual preference saved locally to your browser

The Extension is provided as-is. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any feature at any time without notice.

License to Use

Subject to these Terms, Musestar grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the Tonify Extension for your personal, non-commercial purposes.

This license does not include the right to:

• Copy, modify, or distribute the Extension's source code or compiled files
• Sublicense, sell, or transfer your rights to use the Extension
• Use the Extension for commercial purposes without prior written consent from Musestar
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Extension

Acceptable Use & Restrictions

When using Tonify, you agree not to:

• Use the Extension in any manner that violates applicable local, national, or international law or regulation
• Use the Extension to record, extract, or permanently capture audio content from any streaming service — Tonify processes audio in real time for playback only and is not intended as a recording tool
• Use the Extension to circumvent digital rights management (DRM) protections or any technical protection measures on copyrighted content
• Use the scripting permission granted to the Extension for any purpose other than its intended function (adjusting media playback speed on the active tab)
• Modify, adapt, or create derivative works of the Extension without prior written permission from Musestar
• Attempt to extract, reverse engineer, or repurpose the Extension's audio processing code for other applications

Intellectual Property Rights

The Tonify Extension, including its design, code, graphics, logo, brand identity, and all related intellectual property, are and remain the exclusive property of Musestar. All rights not expressly granted in these Terms are reserved.

The "Tonify" name, the Musestar name, and associated logos and marks are trademarks of Musestar. You may not use these marks without prior written permission from us.

You retain all rights to any audio content you listen to through the Extension. Tonify does not claim any ownership over audio processed through the Extension.

Third-Party Services & Platforms

Tonify works alongside streaming platforms you already use — such as YouTube, Spotify Web Player, SoundCloud, and others — by capturing their tab audio locally and adjusting media element playback speed. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or partnered with any of these platforms.

The Extension uses Chrome's tabCapture API and the scripting permission to interact with the active tab. It does not authenticate with, communicate with, or send data to any third-party platform or service. All processing is local.

Streaming platforms may update their architecture, implement stricter DRM, or change their terms of service at any time in ways that affect Tonify's functionality. We will endeavor to maintain compatibility but cannot guarantee it. Musestar is not responsible for any platform decisions that limit or break the Extension's features.

Your continued use of any streaming platform remains solely subject to that platform's own terms and policies.

Disclaimer of Warranties

THE TONIFY EXTENSION IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, MUSESTAR DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

• Implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement
• Warranties that the Extension will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses or other harmful components
• Warranties regarding the accuracy, reliability, or quality of any results obtained through the Extension

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so some of the above exclusions may not apply to you.

Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL MUSESTAR, ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, OR AGENTS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION:

• Loss of profits, data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses
• Damages resulting from your access to or use of, or inability to access or use, the Extension
• Damages resulting from platform changes, DRM enforcement, or account actions taken by any third-party streaming service in response to your use of the Extension
• Any audio quality degradation, latency, or artifacts introduced by the Extension's real-time processing

In jurisdictions where limitation of liability for consequential or incidental damages is not permitted, our liability shall be limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.

Termination

These Terms remain in effect until terminated. You may terminate your agreement to these Terms at any time by uninstalling the Tonify Extension from your browser.

We reserve the right to terminate or suspend your access to the Extension, at our sole discretion, without notice and without liability, if we believe you have violated these Terms or any applicable law.

Upon termination, all licenses and rights granted to you under these Terms will immediately cease. Provisions of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination — including intellectual property provisions, disclaimers, and limitations of liability — shall survive.

Changes to These Terms

We may revise these Terms from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page and, for material changes, may notify you through the Extension or our website.

Your continued use of the Tonify Extension after any changes to these Terms constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree to the revised Terms, please uninstall the Extension.

Governing Law & Disputes

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable laws, without regard to conflict of law provisions. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Extension that cannot be resolved informally will be submitted to binding arbitration or the appropriate courts of competent jurisdiction.
